Our Community Service Projects
Adopt-a-Highway Program
Members and friends of AMC help beautify the chapel neighborhood by collecting
trash four times a year between N. Glebe Road and Peyton Randolph Road. This
community clean-up project takes about 30-60 minutes after the 11 a.m. service
on the first Sunday in January, April, July and October. Also, see “Committees”
below or call Coordinator Rix Perkins at 301-434-7821 for more details.
Camp Horizon
This is a weekend in June for children from the Roanoke Social Services Department
to learn and have fun. It is part of UMC's outreach ministry. Rev. F. Reed Brown
and Rev. Allison Jones, and other interested
persons from affiliated UMC churches serve as teachers and volunteers for
the weekend's activities.
WILL YOU PLEASE HELP US with this very worthwhile project by financially supporting
this program? You can adopt a child for this project by donating $60. Please
make your check payable to UMC and mail to UMC, 1488 Peters Creek Road NW,
Roanoke, VA 24017. Please mark your check Camp Horizon.
Arlington Free Clinic
AMC supports the health of our community by taking up a second offering in
February and August during the regular church services. This important community
ministry helps many patients and families who are unable to afford basic medical
needs.
Christmas Dinner
AMC provides dinner on December
25 between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m. This traditional event is open and free to
all who come. To help with planning, please RSVP to the chapel. Volunteers
are needed to set up, cook, serve, and clean up. Please join us in celebration
of the birth of our brother and one of our great way showers. Call if you
can help. See “Committees” below for more information.
Arlington Outreach
AMC members and friends help staff the county homeless shelter run by the
Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (A-SPAN). Let us know if
you would like to help—volunteering at the shelter is a profound experience!
AMC also collects hygiene items (save your hotel samples), socks, gloves,
hats, and other items that are delivered to the shelter. We also have several
food drives.
Secret Santa
AMC adopts two families through the Arlington Department of Human Services
before Christmas and provides food, toys, clothes, etc. Donations and volunteers
to coordinate the program are needed. This is a real holiday brightener for
many children and their adult relatives in our community.

Social Hour
We all enjoy the coffee and refreshments every Sunday which is all
done by volunteers. Please consider volunteering to head the committee so
that we may continue this service to the congregation.
Ministers, Deacons, Mediums & Healers
Renewal
forms will be sent to you directly from the UMC Education Department. If you
do not receive your renewal papers by February 15, call the Roanoke Office
at 540-562-4889 and inquire as to your status, etc. Remember you are responsible
for returning these forms by return mail in order to maintain your status
with the Association.

Ask the AMC Board Secretary for a master application for the educational programs.
Master applications must be returned to the AMC office for the local board
approval before they are forwarded to Roanoke. You must be a member of a UMC
affiliated church for one year before making application for any of the above.
Psychic Saturday
This monthly event at AMC provides the opportunity for interested person to
experience different kinds of psychic readings with experienced readers. Psychic
Saturday is held on the last Saturday of each month except December, from
10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed
for a variety of duties.
Membership Dues
$12 Individual, $18 Family. Remember,
the Chapel is ruled, governed and owned by you the members; therefore, it
is most important that you maintain your status as a voting member in good
standing in order to help guide and assist the Chapel in its growth. A member
is one who has attended the required orientation meetings, filled out membership
request application, been approved by the Board of Trustees, and taken in
publicly at a church service.
Become an Usher!
Ushers are needed for morning and evening services. Ushering is an easy way
to provide a much needed service to the chapel and meet people at the same
time.
AMC Grounds
We always need help with the gardening and cleaning of the church. Certain
areas are in need of a fresh coat of paint. We can always use help with mechanical
problems too.
Angels
Once upon eternity, above the clouds so high, there were some chosen angels,
who had no wings to fly.
Their hands were made for helping, their hearts were tender too, their smiles
were warm and happy, and glowed as halos do! So God sent down these angels,
because they were such dears, to spread their gentle love. On earth we call
them Volunteers!
